Morris Hunt, Architect CLICK HERE for Carson House CLICK HERE for Dana House ![]() The J.N.A. Griswold house is an excellent example of the Stick Style period American Architecture. The home is a series of rambling asymmetrical shapes. The encircling porch helps to balance and tie together all the complex shapes. The house has the feel of the middle ages with the steep roofs, projecting gable ends, and all the stick work. The sticks give the illusion of half timbering, and divide the wall surfaces into separate panels. The large knee braces of the porch express the structural nature of the stick style. The Architect, Richard Morris Hunt has designed many famous structures, including the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, and Biltmore Mansion in Asheville, North Carolina. The home is a National Historic Landmark. It currently houses the Newport Art Museum & Art Association. for more information on the Griswold House CLICK HERE for more information on Richard Morris Hunt CLICK HERE |
